Turmeric is a rhizome (underground stem) of ginger family – Zingiberaceae. Its botanical name is Curcuma longa. Today it is popularly called The Golden Spice , The Spice of Life or Indian Saffron.
The use of turmeric dates back nearly 5000 years to the Vedic culture. in India, where it was used as a culinary spice and in Ayurvedic medicine.
